Goals & School Improvement Plan

Academic Gap Goal

By May 2026, 80% of Hispanic/Latino students will demonstrate growth of at least 1 level, as measured by a 4-point rubric aligned to Common Core State Standards, from the pre-assessment in October 2025 to the post-assessment in April 2026. Students who scored a 4 on the rubric will maintain their level. Students will explain their mathematical understanding, problem-solving, and reasoning when solving grade-level selected Stepping Stones task(s).

Behavioral or Social-Emotional Learning Gap Goal

By April 2026, the chronic absenteeism rate for our students with disabilities will decrease from 44.4% to 39%. We will measure this progress through weekly attendance data analysis and monthly reports. By mid-year, we expect to see a positive trend in attendance. The plan includes but is not limited to personalized communication with families, providing access to community resources, a mentor/mentee program, and a reward system.

Building History

Lydia Hawk Elementary was built in 1959 on 14.7 acres. It is located at 7600 5th Avenue SE in the Tanglewilde neighborhood of Lacey. The 41,772 square foot building includes 22 instructional spaces, plus 12 portable classrooms.

  • In 1989, the gymnasium was built.
  • In 2000, the original building was completely demolished and rebuilt (excluding the newer gym), and a play shed was built, utilizing local bond and state assistance funds.

Our school was named after Lydia Jane Hawk Mayes, born in 1862, daughter of John Hawk, who was the founder of the Hawks Prairie area of Thurston County.
